The Three-Bucket Approach to Post-Grad Anxiety
“Where do you want to be post-grad?”
“What is your plan?”
“Have you applied for jobs yet?”

I was bombarded with these questions before my senior year had even started.
It made me worried because I felt like I was going to spend all of senior year stressing about the future instead of enjoying my final year of college.
I started to reflect on my goals and what I wanted to focus on during senior year.
Through this reflection, I created an analogy that eased my worries and helped others understand my perspective while allowing me to focus on a more positive outlook.
Many worries come with post-grad life because of all the changes it brings, but instead of focusing on those worries, I wanted to appreciate the present and look forward to the opportunities the future may bring.

The analogy I created involves three buckets.
In one bucket, you are living in your ideal place.
In another, you love your job.
In the last, you are surrounded by friends and have a great community around you.
It is unrealistic to think that all three buckets will be filled straight out of college. However, if I have at least one of those buckets filled, I will be satisfied...
because it means I have found something positive to focus on during this change.
Thinking about post-grad life in this way helps me focus on one thing at a time and appreciate my final year of college.
At the same time, it allows me to come to terms with this different stage of my life while being excited for the future.

We love hearing from business owners on how they find the inspiration they need to keep going. It's even more special when we get to hear strategies from some of our team members here at Sandpiper Agency. Thank you to Emma Tipper for sharing her world!
